The death due to asphyxiation, on Wednesday night, of three stevedores at the “Guillermón Moncada” port, was lamented by authorities of the facility and by the highest management of the province.

According to José Antonio Olivares Díaz, general director of the Eastern Port Services Company, it was preliminarily known that when the workers were preparing to unload a ship with rice they were exposed to a toxic gas after entering a warehouse. sealed and fumigated and was not intended to be unloaded here.

Despite the quick action of their colleagues and rescue teams, the stevedores Roibel Bejarano Hernández, Yosbani Patterson Duany and Raiko Calzado Kindelán, arrived dead at the Dr. Joaquín Castillo Duany Military Hospital, near the site, Radio Rebelde reported.

Beatriz Johnson Urrutia and Manuel Falcón Hernández, first secretary of the Party and acting Governor of Santiago de Cuba, respectively, immediately appeared at the Guillermón Moncada, inquiring about the causes of the unfortunate event and already at the hospital they indicated maximum attention to the family members. of the deceased.

Specialists from Health, the Ministry of the Interior and other institutions are working to determine the causes of the death.
